Give
Giving at Redeemer Central.
A Generous People // At Redeemer Central we want to be a lavishly, extraordinarily, cheerfully generous church. We want to be a people so captivated and memorized by the grace of God that generosity abounds. We want to be a people who give of our time to serve others, give of our resources to equip others and give financially to bless others. The mark of the early church in Acts was generosity; they were so compelled by this unbelievable message of a crucified and resurrected saviour who became poor so that they could be rich in Him, that there was an overflow of generosity. It was then that those around them looking in, those not yet part of this new community, were so amazed by what they saw that they wanted to find out the reason why! It was of course Jesus.
Part of what it means to call Redeemer Central your home is the principle of giving to the local church. If you are part of Redeemer and want to find out more about why and how you can give then read on.
Why should I give?
Giving comes out of a heart that is so captivated by the amazing saving grace of God and all that He has done for us; It is rooted in grace. We realise that everything we have is given to us by God, in his Grace, and that out of an overflow of Joy we love to give back to Him what is already His! In 2 Corinthians 8 Paul uses the example of a phenomenally generous church in Macedonia to remind the Corinthian church how they should be a joyfully generous people, its worth a read!
How much should I give?
The New Testament does not tell us how much we should give, it instructs us to be cheerfully generous. At Redeemer we do not preach tithing (giving 10% of our income to God). We believe that the New Testament teaches us to be a generous people who give cheerfully and sacrificially. I am always reminded of the widow in scripture, quietly giving a tiny amount yet even in giving something so small her generosity was massive! The amount we give is between God and us.
How often should I give?
We give because we are compelled by grace to do so. We are not under any obligation or rule or ‘law’. We give because Christ first gave to us. There are no rules about how often you should give but practically most people give on a monthly basis. Regular giving like this is a great way of helping and serving the church.
