Community is not
I wake up each morning not knowing what each day brings. Although I am now getting out into the community and doing a job that I love (even though not my own class) it’s a whole different ball game and something I am going to have to adjust to. As a result of being ‘on call’ most mornings I have found doing community is more difficult because I don’t know what I am doing each day, when I get home I am really tired (I don’t think pregnancy helps!) and as a couple we make sure we have at least one evening or a weekend doing things together.
I have to remember though community is not just about planning times to see people/do things, it’s not about the more I do the better it is etc. Like Jesus randomly asked Zacheaus if he could come to his house for tea, Jesus was not pre planned all the time. Also I read in the book ‘Just walk across the room’ by Bill Hybels, it talks about just talking to random people, who might you be sitting next to on the bus, in a doctors surgery etc. Community is not just about opportunities you have planned for they can be a welcomed surprise too!
I know for me I need to make sure my work is not my life and what consumes me all the time. Actually I need to keep in focus that God is the centre of my life. What is important for me is raising his name and doing that through community in and outside the church. I know each time my life circumstances change I am going to have to re-evaluate my priorities and re-jiggle things. It may not be easy as I like many people find change hard, but it’s definitely worth it in the end if we see God’s glory shine in this nation.
