Fried Green Tomatoes @ Book Club

Following on from the last book (‘The Book Thief’, which was narrated by Death himself), we have decided to opt for a little light reading this time around. We are getting near to Christmas and we figured we needed a nice feel-good read before we launch into something big over the holidays. So, for this month’s choice, we are reading ‘Fried Green Tomatoes at the WhistleStop Cafe’.

Fried Green Tomatoes is the story of two women in the 1980s, of grey-headed Mrs Threadgoode telling her life story to Evelyn, who is in the sad slump of middle age. The tale she tells is also of two women - of the irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Ruth - who back in the thirties ran a little place in Whistle Stop, Alabama, a Southern kind of Cafe Wobegon offering good barbecue and good coffee and all kinds of love and laughter, even an occasional murder. And as the past unfolds, the present—for Evelyn and for us—will never quite be the same.

We’re meeting this month on Tuesday 24th November at 7pm, in Common Ground coffee shop on University Avenue, Belfast. Come join us – don’t worry if you haven’t finished the book, or even started it! We’ll still find plenty to talk about! If you want any more info on book club, please drop us at line at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
