Goodness precedes greatness
I thought I would link up this article simply because I enjoyed it. It was written by Jon Foreman (Switchfoot) for the Huffington Post, an online American publication. Although it doesn't explicitly mention faith it implies it throughout. There is a crazy idea that we are living for more than ourselves, that there is more meaning to this life than most people give it.
There is a definition of life, love and legacy that the world doesn’t know of, a true greatness that goes beyond the celebrity and the glitter. We have an opportunity with our lives to build a legacy and tell a story. As followers of ‘The Way’ the story we tell both as individuals and as a community is the greatest story to tell. A story of sacrifice and redemption, of love and rescue, of forgiveness and grace. This is the story we find ourselves in. And we need to take our places on the stage. The article by Foreman echoes the legacy building call of John Piper to not waste our lives but give ourselves to the Greater story, the story of reconciliation and renewal, the story of God. Piper tells of the plaque that hangs in his study that motivates his life’s mission. Perhaps it’s message can guide us too. It simply says “Only one life will soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last”. The stage is set, the band is striking up, the world is watching.
