I Stand and Marvel
Today is Good Friday and to give some reflection to this weekend and the events which are so central to us as followers of Christ I thought I would post the lyrics to a hymn we have written at Redeemer Central called 'I stand and Marvel'.
I Stand and Marvel
I stand and marvel at the sight of the one who died for me,
Incarnate Deity,
The Son of Man was crucified, bled His heart until He died,
Incarnate love for me,
Rejected and despised, no-one could ‘er deny,
The suffering Saviour made a wretch with sin,
My debt He paid for me, my pardon granted free,
I stand forgiven now because of Him
Praise the Father, Praise the Son,
Praise the Spirit, Love has won,
Christ has conquered, death and shame,
Christ is risen, praise His Name
I gaze in wonder at the sight of the cross of utter shame,
The plan of sovereign grace,
Mystery of a Holy God come to suffer human pain,
At the hands of those He made,
How could He die for me? How could He die for me?
The Lamb of God, Jesus, the righteous One,
A mocking crown He wore, His Father’s wrath He bore,
And with His last breathe cried “It is done”
I fall in worship at the sight of the resurrected Christ,
What glorious victory,
His body laid inside a tomb, by the Spirit raised to life,
O death, where is your sting?
Up from the grave He rose, Up from the grave He rose,
And with a shout we cry, “Christ is Risen”,
Evil He overcame, No darkness shall remain,
And with a shout we cry, “Christ is Risen”
Hallelujah, my heart and soul must sing,
What love, what grace, my heart and soul must sing
