IN THE CITY // Communion Belfast
I'll give a brief overview of what Communion is and then we'll get a little more acquainted with Communion Belfast. Communion began in the summer 2006 in London out of a music+arts venue called Notting Hill Arts Club. It became a community where bands and musicians could get supported and promoted. The concept caught on and there are Communion's all over the country. They've jumped ship and landed across the ocean with the newest endeavor being Brooklyn - hardcore.
So, Communion Belfast has put on some killer shows over the past few months. They teamed up with the Open House Festival this past Autumn and brought some really great bands to Belfast, including but not limited to Mumford & Sons, Iron and Wine, Laura Marling and closer to home Napoleon.
On the last Sunday of every month Communion and OH hold a show at the Black Box. Bear and Boy played back in November. I, sadly and regretfully was not able to go, but heard great reviews. You can check what’s coming up in the next few months in regards to local music. Napoleon has an ep launch the end of January. Up and comer Nathaniel Rateliff is the support band /I am listening to him right now / if you like Noah and the Whale, you’ll like him.
Communion Belfast promotes local bands such as Napoleon, Captain Cameron, the Lowly Knights, and Lee Mitchell / he’s from Bangor, but lives in England, whatevs /
So for those who want to support and enjoy local music Communion Belfast is your source.
