IN THE CITY // QuirkyWeddings
Weddings. They are everywhere. Sometimes they are awesome. You get seated with some fun people, and the food is great, and everything is beautiful and the music is fun. You've also just witnessed one, if not two people you care about join their lives and hearts together, potentially before God, which is wonderful. Sometimes, weddings are awful. Super tacky, horrendous embarrassing speeches, gross food, no one you know, and if you're single a terrible reminder of how alone you are. Sigh. So many feelings.
Weddings can be super personal and original (or not, depending on who you are) and QuirkyWeddings, a new business based in Belfast want you to have the wedding you’ve always wanted, specialising in all things alternative. From decor, to cupcakes, hair pieces to wedding dresses, venues to photography. They do everything with an edge. I happen to know one of Quirky Weddings partners, Cate Conway and she is a doll. Months ago she ran past me the idea of pub crawl, but for weddings. So instead of your bog standard wedding fair, which tends to be a bit overwhelming, too many things covered in flowers and tule in a confined space, QW has set up different venues with a few different suppliers inside. The venues are located throughout the city centre hosting some really unique suppliers, like circus performers. The Pop Crawl gets you out, doesn’t overwhelm, and offers a few things that maybe you didn’t know were an option. The groom to be might even be more willing to tag along.
The feel of Quirky Weddings is vintage meets alternative. The venues are a bit unusual (The Barge), they use a lot of local talent like Debbie Hughes Johnston creator of Dazzle Me With Your Tips. She does vintage manicures, pedicures, and nail extensions. How cute! They showcase a few bands, and a variety of food venders.
If you are in the midst of planning a wedding, your own, or someone else’s and are looking for something more ‘you’ then check out what Quirky Weddings has to offer.
